Hub Re-Build Time

Having just had my LBS do a tune up and replacing the Bottom Bracket ....
I thought that  was all set for a while with the Trucker. Then noise again started....  noises are hard to find....    since the I just had it tuned, I was thinking that the noise had to be a 'non-mechanical' thing....

perhaps it was a loose bolt (fender, rack, seat) like most have experienced before.   I stripped the bike down.. still had the noise... removed the seat, still had the noise..... removed the pedals... still the noise.    I was thinking that perhaps it was the frame....   but really thought the sound was coming from the 'wheels'.    I did not have a set of other wheels to throw on to see....   I was concerned that the noise might be an indication of a safety issue.

so back to the LBS I went.

After my detail discussion of my troubleshooting  (it was great they they actually heard the noise too), we swapped the wheels and the "sound" went away.    They were able to take it from there....    and rebuild the hubs.   That fixed the problem.

I had not had the hubs serviced specifically, and thought that the normal tune-up would address any "hub needs"  or at least evaluating of the hubs.    Guess I was wrong.....

Lesson Learned.....

I will now specifically ask the LBS to evaluate and/or service - replace the hubs and bottom bracket when I have tune ups done.    I usually have a "tune up" done once a year.
